Marshall Bruce Mathers III better known like Eminem or Slim Shady is American rapper, songwriter and actor. At the age of 14 he began his rap career and joined the group called “Bassmint Productions”. Participating in freestyle battles he gained approval of underground audience. Bad marks and misbehavior was a reason Eminem left the school at the age of 17.
At the beginning of his career, Eminem worked with fellow Detroit MC Royce da 5′9″ under the stage name Bad Meets Evil. Working as a cooker and dishwasher in restaurant Eminem worked on his debut album Infinite that included problems with his daughter Halie and strong desire to get rich.
In 1997 Eminem released his debut album The Slim Shady EP. This album differed from the old one, Infinite, by absence of drug use, sexual acts, mental instability, and over-the-top violence. Also Eminem started to talk about such kind of problems like dealing with poverty and family difficulties.
In 1998 Eminem was signed to Aftermath Entertainment/Interscope Records and year later he released The Slim Shady LP with help of Dr. Dre. Billboard called the album as “light years ahead of the material he had been writing beforehand”
In 2000 Eminem releases the The Marshall Mathers LP that was one of the fast selling like Britney Spears’ …Baby One More Time. In this album he accused celebrities like Christina Aguilera and Fred Durst in dirty things.
In summer 2002 Eminem releases major album The Eminem Show that was criticized by L. Brent Bozell III perceived misogynistic lyrics and use of obscene language, giving Eminem the nickname “Eminef” for the bowdlerization of motherfucker. In spite of this, The Eminem Show was the best-selling album of 2002. The same thing was told few years later by Bob Herbert of The New York Times. He claimed: “In Eminem’s world, all women are whores and he is eager to rape and murder them.”
2010 was the year Eminem came back with his album Recovery and making popular songs like Do Not Afraid and Love The Way You Lie with Rihanna and which was best-selling single in UK since that didn’t get number 1 since 1969.
Eminem is also known as producer. He created his own label Shady Records with Paul Rosenberg. Group D12 and rapper Obie Trice were signed to this label.
As the actor Eminem appeared on the screen for the first time in 8 Mile, released in November 2002. It was semi-autobiographical movie. Eminem said that it was more the representation of growing up in Detroit that his biography.
Eminem is one of the few rappers that had legal troubles based on family issues. After The Slim Shady his mother sued him for slander about her and won about $1600.
In 2011 Eminem became the most followed person on Facebook with more that 40 million “Likes”. In August 6 he took several of his songs on performance at the Lollapalooza 2011.
Eminem has own charity The Marshall Mathers Foundation and helps disadvantaged youth.
